riding
autumns golden rays reach to earth
streaming warmth
beckoning me to go forth
balanced high on my seat
wheels under me
i slide down the drive and onto the street
keeping close to the gravely edge
the wide tires geared for dirt
they hold well sliding over rocks and earth
where sometimes the flowers grow
unwanted abandoned
here,
safe as me from the speeding car
riding as one she and i
warm in the autumn shine
gears shifting with my need
gliding smoothly over small trails
in my quest for the fierce and wild flower
she does not balance well on a slope
so i move her to level ground
there like a ballerina on her toes
held securely by her kick stand
waiting
while i snare my bloom
there where it is peace and calm
among the weeds and cool sea air
the children alight upon their bikes
they race to the top of the oyster pile
beckoning me to join in
little old ladies do not play children's games
but the bay has a call
she and i ride out to stand at her side
there under soft blue skies
where the water reflects the sky i find joy
released from worldly pain
abandoned to the earth at its best
quiet, clear, blue, peaceful
utopia
at its best
