who   what   when   where   why

----------------------------------------------------------------

the idea of mindswell took seed a few years ago,  right around the time that i dropped out of college (just two classes shy of graduation) to pursue an artistic life.

i had noticed that in all of the hubbub regarding the explosive growth of the brave new world of cyberspace, there seemed to be something missing:

art

the internet is about money, and money makes the world go 'round, and money is the root of much evil, and while i don't expect to change the universe with my little website, i would like to try and do my part to make the world a better place.

i envision mindswell as an online community of artists, writers, musicians, poets, filmmakers, and miscellaneous genii - unfettered by closed-paradigm thinking, open to new ideas, and determined to move forward towards enlightenment.

         we live in remarkable times

at the close of the Twentieth Century of Christianity, the human race finds itself at an ominous crossroads.  will we achieve peace, and learn to live in harmony with each other and our environment, or will we destroy ourselves and our planet?

in the song "work for peace", Gil Scott-Heron reminds us:

"no  one  can  do  everything
everyone  can  do  something
each  one  reach  one
each  one  try  and  teach  one"

in "guerrilla radio", Rage Against The Machine screams:

"it  has  to  start  somewhere
it  has  to  start  sometime
what  better  place  than  here
what  better  time  than  now"

politicians hate art.  close-minded bigots hate art.  the military industrial complex hates art.   why?   because art in its purest form is truth.  there is nothing more dangerous to People in Power than truth.

almost everything that you can point to as a sign of the decline and fall of the western world can be traced back to a lie.  drug prohibition, with its devastating effect on the lower class, is built entirely on lies.  how many black and latino artists have to use the word "
HOLOCAUST" before the american people finally wake up to the fact that the War on Drugs is really a War on Drug Users, and that it is destroying the very fabric of our society?

there is no truth in war, only evil.

true art in its purest form is an expression of freedom.  mindswell is committed to showcasing artists, allowing them free reign to express themselves any way they choose.

over the next few weeks (as i get the hang of this whole web-design thing) i will finish setting up my "room" here at mindswell, displaying selections of my poetry, writings, paintings, photography, music and film.

i invite other artists from around the world who have web-pages to link up to this site, whereas their homepage will be their own personal "room" in the hallowed halls of mindswell.

in addition, i will be adding a public domain gallery,  so whether or not you have developed to the point of having a personal home page, you can still show your stuff.

       -  please e-mail me at setharonson@mindswell.com with submissions and suggestions -

well, that's all for now... please bear with me as i put all of this together, and check back often to watch mindswell swell....

sincerely,

"Rules for Radicals"

"Love the earth and the sun and the animals, despise riches, give alms to everyone that asks, stand up for the stupid and crazy, devote your income and labor to others, hate tyrants, argue not concerning god, have patience and indulgence towards the people, take off your hat to nothing known or unknown or to any man or number of men, go freely with powerful uneducated persons and with the young and mothers of families, read these leaves in the open air every season of every year of your life, re-examine all you have been told at school or church or in any book, dismiss whatever insults your own soul, and your very flesh shall be a great poem and have the richest fluency not only in its words but in the silent lines of its lips and face and between the lashes of your eyes and in every motion and joint of your body."
